Ninneri yerithenai neeraakidumun
ninnaruL mazhai pozhi Arunachala
Meaning
Arunachala! Before the fire of wisdom (of your light form) burns me down to ashes, drench me with the rain of your cool grace so I will be able to withstand the heat of the fire.
Explanation
Unless the heart is cooled sufficiently by the grace of divine power and ripened, it cannot stand the intensity of the flames (of initiation), and it will burn one down.
Inner meaning: Please make sure the heat of separation from you (when a lady is separated from her man, it is called ‘viraga thaabam’ ie; sensuous longing, and the sensation of heat is associated with this feeling) does not burn me down, so send down the rain of your grace.
TRK says that ‘ninneri’ is akin to saying the head of Rahu, one of the planets in Indian astrology along with Ketu (in reality they are not planets more Nodes) as it has only head, no body. So to say ‘ninneri’ for Arunachala who is light (heat) personified, is like saying fire of fire.
